Former Chelsea and Germany star Michael Ballack has said that Bayern Munich should consider the prospect of recruiting Jose Mourinho as their next head coach, considering the Portuguese would bring the glamour and sense of attraction at the club. The Portuguese tactician has been out of work since his sacking from Manchester United in December, but he has been fancied to make a managerial comeback during the summer.
He said: “Right now Niko Kovac is the head coach and that should be respected. He does a good job. [But] one cannot deny that, at some point in the future, the appointment of Mourinho would bring a certain glamour to the club and the Bundesliga. It has been seen with Pep Guardiola — his appointment gave the league a giant jolt, even if he did not win the Champions League at the end with Bayern. Guardiola introduced a certain style of play, he’s an exceptional coach. In addition, the international profile of each club is many times higher when you get Guardiola or Mourinho.”
Bayern are currently one point ahead of Borussia Dortmund in the race for the Bundesliga title and they will be crowned champions so long as they secure victories during the final four games of the season. Despite this, there remains a sense of frustration among the fans with the lack of progress in the Champions League where the club were ousted at the round of 16 stage this term. Liverpool beat them by a comfortable 3-1 aggregate during the double-legged encounter.
