Leroy Sane Picks Up PFA Young Player Of The Year Award

Germany international Leroy Sane has been named the PFA Young Player of the Year following his efforts for Manchester City over the course of the 2017/18 season. The left-sided winger has contributed nine goals and a further 12 assists for the Citizens, who claimed the Premier League crown earlier in the month.

Sane could not attend the awards ceremony due to his commitments with Manchester City, but he left a message via video link saying: “I am really honoured to win this award. I have to say also, thank you to all the fans, to my team-mates, to the coaches, to Man City. And also congratulations to all the players who were voted with me to this award because they deserved to win this trophy too because they played a really good season for their clubs.”

The German joined the Mancunian Giants from Schalke prior to the start of the previous campaign and he had to contend with a regular bench role during the initial stages. However, following a settling period, the attacker started to showcase his skills on the left wing and he has now transformed into one of the league’s most creative wide players.

Despite the success of Sane among others, Guardiola still has plans to bolster the club’s attack further in the summer with the Citizens having failed to compete efficiently in the Champions League. City was regarded as one of the favourites to make the final of the competition this term but they were simply outclassed by Liverpool in the quarter-final stage which should have hurt the manager.

According to reports, Guardiola has supposedly made up a three-man shortlist involving Eden Hazard, Kylian Mbappe, and Riyad Mahrez, though the latter looks the most likely to join the club after failing to seal a deadline day move in January.
