Germany legend Michael Ballack launched a scathing attack on Bayern Munich’s Philipp Lahm following his final appearance in the Bavarian shirt.
The right-back called time on his professional career at the age of 33 in order to leave on a high after having won five consecutive Bundesliga titles.
While the footballing fraternity was celebrating Lahm’s achievements in the beautiful game, Ballack brought up an incident during the 2010 World Cup which seemingly did not well with him. The former Chelsea man had been tipped to takeover the captain’s armband for the showpiece event in South Africa, but an ankle injury ruled him out of the tournament.
Lahm therein took over the leadership for Germany who got knocked out in the semi-final stage, but he was no position to give up his post following their World Cup exit. Ballack never played for Die Mannschaft again after the incident, and he feels he was left down by Lahm, who showed his true personality.
