New Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel says that he does not have the same football philosophy of Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola, who is widely known as a manager who wants to play his football on the ground.
Tuchel has a big job on his hands to replicate or even go beyond the achievements of his predecessor, Jurgen Klopp. There are suggestions that he may look towards making the club play a different style of football than they were used to under Klopp. Under the former regime, it was more about intense pressing and high tempo football.
This often did not result in an attractive football, but Tuchel has laid out his plans quite clearly. It remains to be seen if he can change the style overnight without affecting the results. His main task will be to qualify for Europe once again. Dortmund will be without Champions League football for the upcoming campaign, but they cannot remain in this situation for long if they are to retain the star players left like Marco Reus. Tuchel has had a brilliant spell with Mainz, who were known for playing attractive football. However, replicating the same at Dortmund will be a major challenge.
“As a fan and coach I simply admired Pep’s work at Barcelona. But from this admiration I have not tried to copy or imitate Pep.It would not work, imitating his style,” said the reigning Dortmund manager. He also spoke about his contact with Klopp. “We have only had contact via text messages so far. But my wish is that we make up for it. I want a very cozy meeting and a good relationship,” said Tuchel. Dortmund’s season begins early with qualification games for the Europa league group stages. The league campaign starts in the second week of August.
