Michael Ballack believes that the German national team needs to sort out its defensive problems if they have to lift the World Cup trophy next year in Brazil.

Germany’s group in the World Cup finals is Group G. The other three teams in that group are USA, Ghana and Portugal.

Germany will start its campaign in the tournament against Portugal at Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador on June 16.
Germany’s performance in the last World Cup was a little disappointing. It’s not that they played poorly. They in fact scored the maximum number of goals in the tournament, but, in the big semi final match against the eventual champions Spain, they couldn’t perform as well as they were expected to and ended up getting knocked out.

Germany will be one of the strongest contenders for the title in the World Cup 2014 as they have got a balanced side, but, according to Ballack, there are certain areas in which they still need to improve.

In one of his interviews a few days ago, when the former German captain was asked about his country’s chances in the upcoming World Cup finals, he said, “If you have a look at the German squad, you will not be able to find out too many areas of concern, but, one thing in which they need slight improvement is their defence. We need a good, quality left back. We haven’t had a good player at that position for quite a while now.”

“As far as the attack is concerned, we don’t have any issues there. We have got a couple of fantastic forwards who have shown consistency in the past.”

After facing Portugal, Germany will take on Ghana on 21st of June and then USA on 26th of the same month.
