Former Bayern Munich and Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack has said that he is extremely confident that Marco Reus will do a great job if picked for the semi-final against Italy.

The Bayern Leverkusen striker scored in the 4-2 win over Greece, which helped Germany into the semifinals of the Euro 2012 where they will be facing Italy. German national team manager Joachim Loew stunned everyone by introducing Marco Reus along with Miroslav Klose in place of the regular players like Thomas Müller and Mario Gomez. He said that it was the right time to make the changes in order to freshen the team.

The gamble paid off after Germany comfortably beat Greece 4-2 in the quarter-finals of the Euro 2012. The 23-year-old Marco Reus was making his tournament debut in a match. He has recently announced that he will be signing for Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee of £ 15 million. Michael Ballack is one of the players who has seen Marco Reus up close and upfront.

Ballack told Chelsea News that he is confident that the 23-year-old will be a great pick for the German national team for the match against Italy. However, manager Joachim Loew is not expected to make significant changes to the first team.

“He was really good and is a great option for the next game. It’s nice to see that the young players come onto the pitch and take their chance. And above all, Reus was really good,” said Michael Ballack, who used to play alongside Fernando Torres at Chelsea. The 35-year-old midfielder recently left Bayern Leverkusen after his contract came to an end.

It is expected that he would be signing for the MLS club Montréal Impact, but recent rumours appear to suggest that the move could form of due to the excessive wage demands of the former Chelsea midfielder, who made 98 appearances for the national team.
